How much sugar is too much sugar?

There is so much added sugar in food today. The true demon on the market is high fructose corn syrup, it is lurking in so many products. It is the most refined version of sugar. You’ve got to be an avid ingredient reader to spot it in the product. Unless you make all of your own food from scratch, it is hard to regulate what a baby takes in. From the beginning, I gave her baby food without any added sugar or when I could, made my own. Of course, she gets treats, cookies or some sweet bread, and I try to make sure it is as unrefined as possible. I try to leave added sugars out of other parts of her meals. Just about everyday she has yogurt for breakfast, filled with calcium and protein, it is a good choice. I noticed most brands, even the baby branded ones, had a bunch of sugar. I started to buy plain whole milk yogurt and stir in some pureed fruit (either fresh made or jarred without added sugar). She loves it, and likes the swirls the fruit makes on top.
Look for products that list plain old sugar, rice syrup, evaporated cane syrup, maple syrup, fruit juices or molassas. The even bigger challenge is to find less than 4g of sugar per serving. (something that might be impossible for a sweet treat!)
